1/2 c blanched almondsIn a heavy 8-inch skillet over medium-high heat, combine nuts, sugar, water, and salt. Heat to a boil, stirring constantly until syrup has thickened and nuts are lightly browned, about 8 minutes. Spread on a well-oiled plate to cool. Store tightly covered. Chop a few to top ice cream or just eat whole as a snack. Variation: subsitute walnuts or pecans. Take care not to burn.
